The CFC garden is located at 8 Maple Street, Sturbridge, MA 01566. It sits directly behind The Painted Stone Emporium on Main Street and alongside Route 84. It can be accessed from Maple Street, turn left after the Town Hall and drive to the very back parking lot where you’ll see the CFC Garden sign.
In 2017, after researching and visiting four different available sites for the garden, we chose the site on Maple Street. Several years ago it had been a garden for the members of the Federated Church of Sturbridge. At that time, it was full of weeds, but it already had a fence, raised beds (which needed some repair), and a tool shed that needed painting. We were excited to get working on it in preparation for spring 2018 planting.
We had a VERY successful first year. With the help of our generous Sponsors and In-Kind Donors, we had new raised growing boxes built by the carpentry department of Tantasqua Regional High School. With the help of our many volunteers last summer, we grew and donated 1,524 pounds of fresh organic vegetables to the St. John Paul II Food Pantry. It was then that we decided to double the size of the garden to 5,800 square feet in 2019 with 40 raised growing boxes. In our second year of production, we grew 3,107 pounds and donated it all to the Pantry.
Our third year of production was very busy finishing the irrigation system started last year and enclosing the entire garden with sturdy metal fencing to keep little critters out. In spite of the intense heat most of the summer, we produced 2,543 pounds which was donated to the Pantry.
We invite you to follow our progress on this website or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/CFCGardens/. We are as excited now as we were when we first decided to create the garden in 2017.
